Lodi orthopedic surgeon Gary Wisner found guilty of insurance fraud

A Lodi orthopedic surgeon was convicted Thursday of 10 felony counts of overall health care insurance coverage fraud.

Gary Wisner was found responsible in a Sacramento County Exceptional Courtroom of defrauding Medi-Cal and Medicare by administering excessive and medically unjustifiable X-rays to his sufferers among 2012 and 2016.

“When health care practitioners abuse their energy, it is really usually at the price of patients below their care,” California Lawyer Common Rob Bonta explained in a news launch. “Gary Wisner abused the place he held as a health care provider by subjecting his individuals to unnecessary processes to safe extra profits.”

The California Department of Justice, Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA) was notified by numerous governing administration offices in November 2016 of suspected fraud by Wisner in overbilling the Medi-Cal and Medicare courses. 

Wisner, who operated a professional medical clinic in Lodi, would administer X-rays even in program business visits and would X-ray various parts of a patient’s overall body — regardless of whether it had any relation to a patient’s health care situation, the DMFEA investigation.

Evidence introduced at demo confirmed that about a around 4-yr interval, Wisner subjected 10 patients to hundreds of avoidable X-rays at his clinic.

Wisner is also the subject of an independent prison criticism submitted by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office environment for worker’s payment fraud.
