While summer is my favorite season (I love family beach trips and dining al fresco), as I inch closer to 40 (this year!), I’ve become adamant about protecting my skin so it can be healthy for years to come.

Thus over the years, as I’ve progressively gotten more and more into skincare, I’ve learned that the summer season is all about skin maintenance. It is not the time to do intensive treatments, but rather protect your skin from the sun’s intense rays. Plus with all the sweating I do, I choose products that complement that dewy look rather than fight it (aka cream blush and shadow!)

1. Countersun Daily Sheer Defense For Face SPF 25

This is the best facial sunscreen I have ever used. I seriously think every single person should have a bottle. It’s the perfect sunscreen to wear daily under makeup and doesn’t have any white cast at all and isn’t greasy after it sinks in. It’s sheer, as its name indicates, and provides coverage against UVA, UVB, and blue light rays. Using SPF daily is your biggest protector against signs of aging (including fine lines). There’s also vitamin E for antioxidant protection from environmental stressors.  

2. Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Mist SPF 30

Beautycounter’s sunscreen was the first product that got me hooked on the idea of using safer products for me and my family. This is a spray-on zinc-based formula that you do have to rub in, but the spray distributes a mist across your arms, legs, and back so that it’s super fast and easy to rub in. It also has a dryer texture, so your hands aren’t greasy after. I use the mist all of over my body and sometimes on kids’ legs or backs if they don’t wear a rash guard. Plus, it’s a non-aerosol spray – thumbs up. The mist is water resistant for up to 80 minutes, so it’s a great choice for the pool and beach. 3. Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer

This no fuss tinted moisturizer is must-have for summer. It’s also my desert island product because it ticks so many boxes as once as a multitasker. It’s a moisturizer with light coverage and sunscreen (SPF 20) all in one. It gives a dewy luminous finish and now comes in 8 flexible shades for all skin tones (I wear shade 3 for reference). I put this on first thing in the morning all summer long, while I typically save my Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation with more coverage for the fall and winter months and going out. The ingredient list includes vitamin C, black currant seed oil, and peony root extract to help even skin tone and enhance radiance over time. 

4. Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion

While I love my Countertime moisturizers, then Countermatch lotion is much lighter so it’s ideal for summer. It adapts to the skin throughout the day so there is less oily buildup when you’re sweating your face off. Not only does it provide up to 24-hours of hydration — it offers the essential building blocks of hydration, nutrition, and oxygenation with squalane that draws in moisture, plum oil that delivers nutrients, and phytic acid for gentle exfoliation. 

5. Glow First Priming Serum

Both the cream blush and cream shadows pair so well the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer. You know when you get out of the shower and can’t stop sweating? These are so much easier to swipe on than powders! Both the blush and cream shadows add the prettiest highlight for a natural summer glow. My favorite shades are Cider and Chai for blush and Aura for shadow. 

7. All Bright C Serum 

This is the daytime friend of the fan favorite Overnight Resurfacing Peel, and it’s designed to brighten and even skin tone. Not only does it work to fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation, but it actually inhibits melanin synthesis to prevent dark spots from appearing. Vitamin C can degrade quickly in beauty products, and Beautycounter has been working for years to develop this combination of two forms of vitamin C in a super stable formulation that actually delivers results.
